
It is surprisingly difficult to get a good shot of the driver’s view through the mirror. Even when stationary! 🙂
In the image above, I could have moved the rucksack you see on the right, and it might just have been possible for me to move my head a little further out of the way. I had already turned the mirror to avoid getting the camera on the picture. Even so, I could barely see the picture I was taking on the display of the camera.
So the solution is to either fake it completely, that is, to change the seat and mirror so that there is a space for the camera where it captures a “realistic” view both in the mirror and through the windscreen. (Realistic in the sense that it reflects what the driver would see if they were in their normal seated position.)
Or to have a miniscule camera near the eye position of the driver, akin to the Google Glass camera, so that the camera does not register on the photo and has almost the same viewing angle as the driver.
Either way: Don’t try this while driving!
